The Will of God

W3CP2 = The Will of God

          2.  We need to spend time in the presence of God to understand his ways, desires and wants.  God does not have to explain why he does what he does or his motive for doing his sovereign will.  God is above question.  He enjoys our presence in prayer and will never chide us when we come to him.  The great need for us in finding his will for our lives is hidden in the presence of prayer.  We need to spend time with God in prayer.  God calls this place we come to commune with him in prayer the throne of grace.  Hebrews 4:16 “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”  God welcomes us to come to him at his throne of grace, in prayer, boldly make requests and to linger in his presence.  Even in life when we spend time with someone we begin to understand how they think and what their method is.  That’s what the presence of prayer helps us with in searching for the will of God in our lives.

As we talk about prevailing prayer as an important part of finding God’s will, there is a statement to be said on the importance of lingering in prayer and spending extended time in his presence.  That is something that God loves for us to do.  Now it makes sense.  Philippians 2:5 “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.”  You get this mind not only by studying his word but by lingering in prayer.  Jesus did the same thing when he withdrew alone so he could spend time in the presence of his father.

We commune with God through our spirit and through the Bible.  Even his servants today who linger in prayer with God often find their special places in God’s creation where they like to go and meet with God.  Like Matthew 6:6 says “…when thou prayest, enter into thy closet…”  We all have those special places we like to go and pray.  Our Lord had his and he went up a mountain to pray.  Our prayer closets are often places where no one else goes or a place that has little or no distractions where you can cry out to God without being overheard by the rest of the world.  You may find yourself when you get to your cherished spot.  Going to your knees or walking or just sitting and praying to God.  It is usually a different place for each of us and different times of the day like those who thrive on early morning prayer or those who can break away during the day and the late nighters who burn the midnight oil in prayer.  Aren’t you glad that the throne of grace is open 24/7 and all are welcome at any time and there are no lines waiting to get an audience with God?  Amazing.
